Best known for Iona Abbey and its associations with Colmcille or St Columba as he became known. Iona, a tiny island in Scotland's Inner Hebrides is famously described as a ‘thin place’ - a term for a place where the barrier between heaven and earth feels almost non-existent.

Less well known about Iona is that there were at least 48 Scottish Kings, Norwegian kings and at least 4 Irish Kings buried near Reilig Ódhran with a ceremonial road from where the boats came ashore near Martyr’s Bay to this ancient graveyard near Iona Abbey.

Iona nunnery and Dun í hold spectacular energies and are ‘thin places’ where it feels possible to go back in time to when these sites were in their heyday...

Sometimes we have an addition to the tour that takes us north to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides to visit the Callanish Stone Circles, taking in Glen Lyon, Fortingal and Inverness as part of that journey.

Each day we spend time out in nature, on the land, time in meditation enjoying the depth of connection that these amazing sites make possible.

George Macleod, founder of the Iona Community, wrote that Iona is “a thin place where only tissue paper separates the material from the spiritual.”
